In roller bearings, there are thin stamped metal cages which hold the roller bearings in place. These pieces are stamped, rolled, and welded to form a round shape. Before these pieces can be used, the sharp edges must be deburred so they do not scratch the roller bearings. Vibratory finishing has been used but problems with lodging of the media and distortion of the part often occur. One large manufacturer in the Southeast U.S. is blasting these pieces in a tumblast machine using soft shot. This effectively removes any sharp edges without any lodging or changes in the shape of the pieces. Because the NU-SOFT is exceptionally soft, there is no chance of peen-forming of these parts.
- Industry/Application: Roller bearing manufacturing
- Challenge: Deburring caused distortion or media lodging
- NU-SOFT Solution: Tumblast blasting with soft shot
- Benefits: No deformation, clean edges, no media lodging
- Media Used: NU-SOFT Shot
