GMA Industries
– Company History

At GMA Industries, our journey began in March 1982, originally known as General Metal and Abrasive Company. We entered the market with a clear focus on recovering and reclaiming steel abrasives like cast steel shot, grit, and cut wire shot.

1986
Expanding Our Reach

From day one, we built a reputation for delivering outstanding customer service, cost-effective solutions, and top-tier products. Our first home, a 10,000-square-foot facility in Detroit, helped us support customers in abrasive blasting and shot peening. But as demand soared, we expanded to a 26,000-square-foot facility in Romulus by 1986, with another 20,000 square feet added to accommodate our growing operations. We’re continuing to grow, with a 15,000-square-foot warehouse being added to our manufacturing facility in 2024.

1989
Driving Recycling Innovation

Our drive for innovation led us to install a production line in 1989 to recycle Brown Fused Aluminum Oxide, a move that reshaped our future. With new leadership, we became GMA Industries, signaling our broader vision and diversified capabilities.

2003
Innovations with
NU-SOFT

In 2003, we partnered with Ervin Industries to introduce NU-SOFT Steel Shot, an abrasive media designed to clean delicate parts without damaging surfaces. This groundbreaking partnership grew even stronger in 2012 when we became Southeast Michigan’s go-to distributor for Ervin’s Amasteel Cast Steel Shot & Grit and Amacast Cast Stainless Steel Shot.

2004
Industry Leadership with V-Blast

By 2004, we launched our own Virgin Brown Fused Aluminum Oxide, known as V-Blast, along with our remanufactured R-Blast. Today, GMA Industries is at the forefront of abrasive manufacturing and distribution, offering cutting-edge solutions for shot blasting, surface cleaning, and preparation driven by a legacy of innovation and quality assurance.
